Program areas at Community 43

Community program offers a safe environment for social interaction with Community members. Where choices of programs before them and a place to be where they are supported.
Health and wellness: Community 43 members can participate in their own self-care as they learn about their own diagnosis, treatment for the diagnosis, as well as alternative methodologies that can be used to help them maintain their own mental health and wellness. Community 43 members can also learn more about managing their own mental health and wellness through a variety of activities throughout the day, both individually and in mutually supportive classes. Classes will be taught to address chronic health conditions as well as managing substance abuse disorders. Community 43 members will have opportunities to learn more through physical health activities, through direct services, and in classes whereby individuals learn about their chronic health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity as well as how to manage health conditions to have more healthy and productive lives.
Culinary - future Community chefs are encouraged to learn about healthy nutrition and healthy choices which ties their own behavioral health to their physical well-being. Culinary skills are taught in the commercial kitchen and dining area. Skills include learning how to grow or shop for, clean and prepare fruit, vegetables, and various protein products, how to cook and serve them to our Community. Community 43 future chefs will have an opportunity to improve their skills and prepare for entry into a Community culinary arts program.
Community 43 has an urban gardening on a 5,000 square foot plot where participants can bring learning home. Along with gardening, horticulture can also teach the values of working together towards a common goal. The level of effort put into the program to have plants flourish. The program will harvest all kinds of plants from our daily gardening! And in the future offer a farmers market to the area.
Community members are invited to learn self-improvement in their professional skills that can lead to opportunities in business offices as they learn how to design and tighten up their resumes, learn about graphic design, learn to type, file, answer phones and other entry level employment skills. This area also includes information technology, learning software and operations.
Artists at Community 43 is providing our Community the opportunity to develop socially as well as professionally as they learn about art from the paleolithic age to postmodern age of art. Members will acquire valuable skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, weaving & textiles. Meanwhile artists will learn how to develop their own portfolios. Artists will also have the opportunity to learn the arts that will lead them towards independence such as being a Community artist.
Health clinic - provides medical treatment so that members can see a doctor or physican assitant onsite for ongoing treatment of mental health and other issues making it easier for them to get the care needed. This allows them to be more proactive in treatment of illnesses providing better continutiy of care, faster assessment or issues and putting less strain on emergency medical systems in the area.
