The mission of the early childhood program is to join with the Community in strengthening families and improving the quality of life for children. The overall goal of the early childhood program is to bring about a greater degree of social competence in children. Social competence means the child's everyday effectiveness in dealing with both the present environment and later responsibilities in school and life. Children provided with a wide variety of learning experience will grow in all areas of development (socially, physically, intellectually and emotionally). Ultimately, the early childhood program is here to help low-income residents solve some of their existing economic and social problems. The aim is to stimulate a better focusing of all available resources to enable families to obtain the skills, knowledge and motivation to secure the opportunities to become self-sufficient.
Energy programs - the home weatherization assistance program (hwap) offers income-qualified homeowners and renters the opportunity to lower residential utility costs by adding weatherization efficiencies. The program helps applicants understand energy audits and provides additional resources to help make cost-effective decisions. Heap offers heating bill assistance during the winter heating season. Whether an eligible household heats with electric, gas, firewood, coal, propane, fuel, oil, or kerosene, this program can help. The summer crisis program assists low-income households with residents who are age 60 and over and ohioans with a qualifying medical condition and people who are the most vulnerable to serious health problems resulting from summer's extreme temperatures. Those eligible for the program receive electric bill payment assistance.
The purpose of employment programs is to establish activities to prepare youth and adults facing serious barriers to employment for participation in the labor force by providing job training and other services that will result in increased employment and earnings, improving the quality of the workforce and enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of the nation.
