Description
Community Alliance for Global Justice coordinates over 100 volunteers and one dozen interns to engage in community education efforts, trainings, and leadership development opportunities. The organization hosts Rise Up Summer School with 100 registrants and dozens of regular participants in discussions, webinars, and two Teach-ins. It produced an educational 5-part film series that has been viewed over 50,000 times across platforms and regularly posts educational content. CAGJ's mission is to educate the community about food trade and agricultural issues.

Program areas at Community Alliance for Global Justice

Education: Hosted the Art and Activism series to collectively create art and learn about movement-building with art. Monthly presentations highlighted artists engaged in social justice and 2 hands-on art-making workshops. Posted educational content and event announcements to social media garnering new supporters. Hosted monthly organizing meetings for the first half of the year to bring our community together and share campaign updates. Participated in partners actions locally and nationally raising awareness of challenges faced by farmworkers farmers native fishers and grocery store workers.
Publications: Produced a monthly e-newsletter reaching 10,000 people. Rich Appetites short film series was completed and screened at multiple events including film festivals across the US. Partners in Africa used some of the films in their policy advocacy work. Continued to circulate CAGJs three Our Food Our Right publications at community events and tabling opportunities.
Outreach and leadership development: Coordinated volunteers to engage in community education efforts trainings and leadership development opportunities. Gathered community members to learn about food justice and food sovereignty issues at multiple events throughout the year. Hosted well-attended events and workshops focusing on food sovereignty in Africa. Staff and a volunteer member traveled to the Pan-African Seed Conference and gave a keynote presentation on digital agriculture.
