In 2021-22 we brought back summer camps, after school clubs in-school STEM classes hosted larger bike giveaways community bike rides. But we kept our prior year focus on community-based, no cost youth camps.

Program areas at Community Cycling Center

BIKE SHOP. The Cycling Centers central program is the full-service bicycle repair shop on NE Alberta. The shop accepts donations of used bikes and parts, and cleans, refurbishes and resells them. We keep affordable used bikes and bike related supplies circulating, and we keep salvageable bikes, parts and accessories out of the waste stream. CCC is the largest recycler of bikes and bike parts in Oregon. The shop also serves the neighborhood by offering repair services and selling new accessories helmets, locks, bike bags, etc and new bike parts. In addition, the shop provides education information, loans tools and bicycle stands for community members to use, and offers a Low Income Commuter Discount program. The shop also hosts weekly volunteer nights and periodic bike maintenance classes. We also host an internship program allowing marginalized youth to gain experience in a large and growing part of the Portland economy.
COMMUNITY PROGRAMS. The STEM Bicycle Mechanics Program operated at 3 alternative high schools in N NE Portland. Our hands-on curriculum helps students earn the credits they need to graduate while giving them practical skills, mentorship entry into the fields of science, technology, engineering math. The program includes options for a week-long onsite training at the Bike Shop, as well as internships apprenticeships. Andando en Bicicletas en Cully ABC is a community collaboration that uses bicycles as a tool to bring the Spanish-speaking, immigrant community together in the Cully neighborhood of NE Portland. ABC members organize rides events and advocate for better bicycling infrastructure. We provide organizing support for the group bike-related support including free bikes, repair services ride leader training. The Bicycle Repair Hub is a mini shop located in N Portland. It offered over 800 free bike repairs in a neighborhood with no easy access to those services. It also offers mechanical skills training the opportunity to earn a bike to keep to anyone.Sched O
YOUTH PROGRAMS. Bike Camp is about the empowerment independence kids feel from a summer adventure on 2 wheels. Campers gain confidence, knowledge skills in a safe, creative supportive team environment. Activities include developing safe riding techniques, mechanical skills road knowledge through hands-on experience. Camps are brought to local communities to improve access to the program for young people experiencing poverty. Bike Club is an after school program to build rider confidence empowerment. Young people can earn a bike by taking lessons in bike maintenance, navigation safe riding techniques. For over 29 years the Cycling Center has been distributing free new lovingly refurbished used bikes to children from families with low income. At the winter Holiday Bike Drive the Bikes for Kids in spring summer, staff volunteers deliver bikes, helmets safety education to hundreds of youth each year. We also worked with parents, faculty, staff community at several local schools to provide safe routes to schools promote walking biking.
