Program areas at Community Farmshare

Farm to School (F2S) - CFS provides weekly fresh produce bags to 200 MCPS school families at 10 high FARMS rates Community schools, providing a key nutrition benefit during the agricultural season (including during summer months when healthy food access is more challenging with fewer school meals programs). CFS additionally partners with SNAP-Ed to support nutrition education in the classrooms and making connections with local farms.
3. CFS sells local produce through our food hub services to facilitate nonprofits/community based organizations to purchase local produce for their own food assistance programming through their grant funding. In 2023, we sold local produce to Capital Area Food Bank through their federal Local Food Purchase Agreement grant.
Food is Medicine (FIM) - We partner with community based organizations, community safety net clinics and nutrition educators to support 96 low income uninsured residents managing diet related chronic disease (and their households). The FIM program includes weekly fresh produce bags for 24 weeks, supported by nutrition education and diet related disease management and prevention classes and one on one support. In 2023, we partnered with 3 community health clinics throughout the county to serve low income residents facing diet related chronic disease.
