Program areas at Community Foundation of Jackson Hole
Old bill's fun run / tin cup challenge - since 1997, the Foundation has produced old bill's fun run, an innovative initiative that has generated over $228 million to date. Each year, an anonymous couple, mr. & mrs. old bill, create a matching grant opportunity that challenges the Community to donate to local nonprofits and fosters the spirit of philanthropy. Donors make a single gift to benefit one or more nonprofits, who receive 100% of the donations designated to them along with a partial matching grant. In 2008, the Community Foundation of teton valley launched the tin cup challenge, modeled after old bill's, which has generated over $21 million to date. In 2022, approximately 4,200 donors gave $19.96 million to support 223 organizations participating in old bil's; over 1,300 donors gave $2.5 million to support 54 organizations participating in tin cup.
Discretionary grants, scholarships, & fellowships - the Foundation's discretionary grant programs provide financial support to organizations that are effectively addressing important Community needs in teton county, wy. The Foundation's competitive grants program supports organizations addressing important Community needs. Funding decisions are made by a volunteer grants committee comprised of dedicated Community members with diverse interests and experience. The youth philanthropy program introduces local high school students to strategic grant making. The micro grants program is designed as a timely funding mechanism for requests that address Community needs. In 2022, the Foundation's grant programs provided over $800,000 to 92 organizations working in Jackson Hole and teton valley. The Foundation's grants programs are funded by old bill's cochallengers and tin cup challengers, individual donors, and endowed funds held at the Community Foundation of Jackson hole.over 250 scholarships are available to teton county, Wyoming high school seniors through teton county scholarship program. The Community Foundation co-administers this program with the fund for public education, in partnership with teton county school district #1. The program's generous donors include individuals, families, nonprofits, businesses, and civic organizations, all with a passion for education and our local youth. In 2022, 225 students were awarded more than $900,000 in scholarships and fellowships.
Fund administration - the Community Foundation manages over 280 funds designed to make philanthropy easy and effective for local donors and to provide cost effective asset management for local nonprofits. The Foundation offers seven fund types to meet specific donor, nonprofit, and Community philanthropic needs. Each fund can be structured in three different ways depending on the amount in the fund, its life expectancy, and the amount of expected activity. In 2022, the Foundation received approximately 900 gifts, totaling $25.8 million, for these funds and processed over 2,600 grants, totaling $17.5 million, from our donor-advised, designated, and other advised funds, including interfund grants, to benefit qualified charities working in a variety of fields throughout the u.s.
Other program services - in addition to fund administration, old bill's fun run, and competitive grants and scholarships, the Community Foundation also supports local nonprofits by offering workshops on nonprofit management (e.g. Board development, grant writing, sustainability, etc. ), coordinating networking and information sharing opportunities (e.g. Volunteerjh.org and a nonprofit list-serve) and providing technical assistance and consulting, as requested. In 2022, over 300 participants (representing over 100 organizations) attended 22 classes, workshops, or networking events offered by the Foundation. 23 nonprofits posted 34 volunteer opportunities on the volunteerjh website, and approximately 1,500 individuals subscribe to the nonprofit list-serve hosted by the Foundation.
