Program areas at Community Foundation of Whitley County

Scholarships: we provide scholarships to students wanting to pursue post secondary education. These scholarships are to help with expenses relating to tuition, fees and books. As a Community, we hope to be able to financially help our citizens obtain education past a high school degree. Only 13.3% of adults over twenty-five years of age in Whitley County have a four year degree. It is the hope that scholarships will improve that percentage over time.
Convening Community leaders: the Whitley County Community Foundation will be the catalyst for change in the Community. Whenever needs arise, the Foundation acts as the convener to the interested parties to help facilitate change. Since the Foundation is not political, it can stay neutral in many situations.
Grants: the Whitley County Community Foundation's unrestricted endowment funds respond to the ever-changing issues facing Whitley County. Twice a year, the Foundation's volunteer grants committee reviews applications and makes funding recommendations to the board of directors. Grants are made possible by donors who have instructed the Foundation to direct their gifts where ever the need is the greatest. The Community Foundation directs grants to charitable projects that will make a positive impact on Whitley County and its people, with particular interest in projects that shed new light on local needs and provide innovative, long-term solutions. Categories of support include: arts & culture, health, civic affairs, recreation, Community development, welfare, and education.
