Program areas at Community Gardens of Tucson
In 2023, the Community Gardens of Tucson (CGT) provided 429 garden plots to 1287 community members, resulting in an estimated 46,761 pounds of food grown. CGT collaborated with five schools to provide 150 gardening education classes to children and families, reaching 434 kids. CGT hosted 11 skill-building workshops to support beginning and experienced gardeners, with 83 participants attending. Our Food Resiliency Program, which extends free and sliding scale plot fee assistance to local residents, enabled 54 low income and food insecure families in Tucson to grow food. We held 24 volunteer workdays and attended 18 community events. We improved accessibility at gardens with new raised beds, light weight hoses, and waist-height hose holders. Finally, we formed partnerships with several local businesses to divert biologic food waste into compost to build healthy soil in our gardens.
