Community Matters Cincinnati exists to create a thriving and just community by removing barriers to opportunity. The organization works in partnership with residents of the Lower Price Hill neighborhood in Cincinnati, Ohio. They invest directly in residents as organizers and leaders of community initiatives, committed to evaluating existing power structures and engaging families. Through the Family Sustainability pillar, Community Matters provides resources for families to achieve their goals, particularly through the Opportunity Hub program.

Program areas at Community Matters Cincinnati

Education Pathways The Education Pathways pillar seeks to ensure that all people in our community have access to the education necessary to accomplish their goals. Through the Education Forward program, adult learners can access small-group English literacy classes, one-on-one preparation to earn their high school equivalency, enroll and succeed in college, and advance their careers.
Family Sustainability The Family Sustainability pillar exists to ensure that all families have the resources to achieve their goals. The Opportunity Hub is the primary program in this pillar of work and is where families partner with us as they move their households from crisis/instability to sustainability. The Opportunity Hub includes the Community Market, a choice food pantry that addresses food access.
Thriving Community The Thriving Community pillar seeks to create a Lower Price Hill that is an affordable and vibrant place to live. Current initiatives include the Washing Well laundromat, where resident-led staff ensures consistent access to affordable laundry; The Sanctuary, a community event space; and LPH Thrives, affordable housing and resident-owned business development
Resident Leadership The Resident Leadership pillar exists to invest in residents to lead community development and hold power in community institutions. Current opportunities include Justice League, a youth activism and leadership development program; The Collective, a group of residents who facilitate creative, community-based activities; the LPH Community Gardens and Clean & Green Team, projects where residents lead the upkeep of our community gardens and beautify the neighborhood; and the Neighborhood Action Team, a coalition of residents who organize community voice and develop community initiatives.
