Program areas at Compasspoint Mentorship

The CompassPoint Mentorship summer camp in San Jose now in its fourth year offers a dynamic five-week program to more than 45 underserved youth each year from the local area at no cost. This camp fosters young leaders through a variety of activities including robotics aviation swimming environmental education and more. Each activity is designed to promote creativity teamwork and personal growth ensuring participants gain valuable skills and experiences that impact them and their communities positively.
The Youth Committee at CompassPoint Mentorship actively supports a range of committees and special projects designed to enrich and empower young individuals in diverse fields. The committees include Data Science for Social Justice which uses data analysis to address inequities and has notably supported the Alviso Environmental Impact initiative with backing from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation SVCF. This particular project focuses on assessing and mitigating environmental challenges in the Alviso area. Other committees are Public Art enhancing community spaces; History and Culture celebrating local heritage; and Wellness promoting health. Special projects include internship support for BART and STEM-related projects like MarsB engaging youth in advanced scientific explorations. These combined efforts aim to equip young individuals with the tools to creatively and effectively tackle future societal challenges.
Currently we offer violin and band classes across various schools including HAPPY MOZART Music School. We are excited to announce the expansion of our program to further serve underserved youth at no cost. Starting in the 2023-2024 school year we plan to include George Mayne Elementary School in Alviso in our initiative. This expansion aims to provide equitable access to music education fostering both artistic expression and personal development among students in need.
