Rural america is home to 25% of the us population, but just 10% of providers must treat a wide variety of emergencies, from cardiac and trauma to obstetrics and stroke, without the specialists or Advanced equipment found in urban areas. Their ability to care for critically ill or injured patients can be vastly improved with appropriate training and education - specifically, the Comprehensive, team-based training programs provided by cals.comprehensive Advanced Life Support rural emergency medical education (cals) is an education Program specifically designed for rural emergency medical teams. Cals covers a broad range of emergencies in a single curriculum uniquely suited for resourceconstrainedenvironmentsthe cals Program provides emergency medicine for rural and remote communities. During the fiscal year 2022-2023, cals provided courses in minnesota-23, national guard-1, wisconsin-1, oklahoma-4, alaska-1. We also provided education for the us department of state-1 educating emergency healthcare individuals during the covid-19 pandemic. In addition, cals conducted several instructor courses.the cals Program is proud to be the exclusive provider of emergency training to u.s. embassy medical personnel around the globe. This past year, 16 participants completed training, with more than 2,400 of the u.s. department of state's foreign-service medical personnel in total have completed cals training.following the start of the covid-19 pandemic, cals education need was evident as rural hospitals recognized their need for team training, airway management, and critical care knowledge to care for covid-19 patients who could not be transferred to other facilities. Cals was able to provide courses and education related to this need.
