Program areas at Computer Museum of America
During 2019 the Computer Museum of America depended on contributions for their acquisition of large and small vintage computer collections such as a vintage computer technical documentation collection. The variety of contributions is truly representative of all segments of society with contributions such as the vintage equipment above to original vintage systems, other vintage computers and other items still in unopened original boxes. In addition there were services contributed and use of equipment contributed. As the collections and facilities are fully developed the admissions will continue to increase.
Computer Museum of America is dedicated to the preservation of stories and artifacts from the digital age while educating and inspiring visitors of all ages and backgrounds. In 2023, cmoa opened a new chips exhibition. Artistically detailing the history and impact of semiconductors at work in technology. The Museum accessioned over 1,000 artifacts and held 26 summer camps serving over 200 campers. Through two community electronics drives, we helped keep 2800 pounds of electronics out of landfills and upcycled 37 laptops for children. A new partnership with the Georgia public library system which allows library card holders to 'check out' a pass for admission to cmoa at no cost. This partnership guarantees accessibility to residents across Georgia. Eight talking tech @ cmoa presentations allowed visitors a chance to hear about cutting-edge technology such as ai or information from nasa ambassadors. School field trips allow cmoa the opportunity to impact the lives of more children and
Cont'd from 1 above - scouts to visit cmoa and work on more than 10 badges that align with their technology focus areas. Tech tales storytime runs throughout the summer months for daycares/camps and visiting families. This program introduces stem concepts to our youngest visitors with a hands-on activity supporting the idea discussed. Cmoa organized two educators' weekends where teachers visit at no charge. The partnership with fulton county school, innovation academy, continued. Cmoa creates a rotating exhibit each semester. In 2023, it was the history of calculators and cameras. Our vision is to reveal lessons from the history of computing and technology to the widest possible audience and empower generations of students, entrepreneurs, workers, and educators to excel.
The Computer Museum of America is primarily supported by endowment
Funds. Admissions and memberships support our mission by funding
Educational exhibits and programs. Rental income from private events and workshops aligns with our educational goals and provides
Additional funds for operational costs. Sales of merchandise extend the Museum experience, promoting further learning and interest in computing history. Donations, grants, and sponsorships ensure financial stability and foster innovation in our exhibits and programs , all contributing to our overarching goal of educating the public about the history and evolution of computers. The Computer Museum of America reported admissions, memberships, rental, profit from sales of inventory, and other income in column (e) of part xv-a and explained in part xv-b that these performances are the primary means by which it accomplishes its cultural and educational purposes.
