Program areas at Comunilife
Permanent housing with associated social services and rent supports for persons living with hiv/aids:comunilife provided 934 units of permanent supportive housing for people living with hiv/aids including 496 units of congregate housing and 436 units of scatter site housing. Funding is used for supportive services and rent support with the goal of providing housing stability and improved health outcomes.
Transitional, stabilization, and asylum housing for the chronically homeless:comunilife provided 320 units of transitional housing for the chronically homeless, street homeless and newly arrived asylum seekers. This housing provides housing, meals, and case management services in two safe haven residences with a total of 108 units, 56 units of asylum housing, and 156 units of housing for the chronically homeless.
Transitional and permanent housing with associated social services and rent support for people living with mental illness:comunilife provided transitional and permanent supportive housing for formerly homeless adults living with mental illness. Comunilife's provided 752 units of permanent supportive housing including 606 units of scatter site housing, 126 units of congregate housing in 3 residences, and, and 20 units of transitional housing.
Additional program services:suicide prevention activities for at-risk latina teens. Our life is precious program (2008) provides treatment adjacent services to latina teens at-risk of suicide, who reside in the bronx, brooklyn, queens, and manhattan as well as poughkeepsie and yonkers, new york. 256 teens received services that include academic support, creative arts therapies, music lessons, wellness activities and concrete family services. The services are designed to reduce the risk factors associated with latina adolescent suicide. In addition to its core activities, lip also provides civic engagement activities, community education and awareness, and enhanced parent/family engagement services.medical respite services. In 2023, respite served 267 people with 118 clients moving to permanent housing. Our medical respite program provides short-term supportive housing and case management services to multiply-challenged patients leaving hospital care without a viable home in which to recuperate. With contracts from hospitals, managed care companies, and other health related organizations, respite with an average stay of 53 days, helps break the cycle of shelter to hospital to shelter that many homeless experience. This results in better health and social outcomes for clients, a reduced shelter population, and financial savings for hospitals.
