Program areas at CAP
Completed work for the great lakes commission (glc) for the brush creek Project. This program involved installing two types of bmps--cover crops and filter strips--with erosion control structures. Accomplished our goal of 1500 acres of cover crops and 90% of filter strips and structures. Completed all pay outs and completed final report to glc. Another grant, to be used in retro-fitting nutrient placement tools for phosophorus application, is now underway and runs through december 2018.
Continued to assist local swcds with a local field day, this year held on july 27 in henry county Ohio. The theme was "field to the lake," which had over 130 attendees. Additionally, two newsletters were published and sent to a mailing list of over 3,000. Both items provide information regarding advancements in Conservation practices and nutrient management.
Partnership with campbell's soup is in the 9th year of a 10-year effort to assist with elimination of non-point pollution from the maumee river, with a focus on nitrate reduction. Funded projects included installation of cover crops and controlled ag drainage. A total of seven controlled drainage practices were installed covering 340 acres; 200 acres of cover crops completed.
Continued working with tnc on development of a certification process for nutrient management with dealers and farmers known as the 4r program. To date we have 37 dealerships certified as 4r compliant. These dealers effectively cover over 1,960,000 acres in the western lake erie basin area.
