Public lands - advocated for protection of local public lands and educated and engaged the public in their protection; organized 15+ environmental conservation education and outreach activities for 750+ attendees; successfully settled a lawsuit with the department of the interior, leading to a more comprehensive review of impacts expected by proposed four-lane highway through red cliffs national conservation area; collected 6,000+ comments in support of protecting red cliffs; organized 100+ volunteers for a total of 2,000+ volunteer hours on public lands stewardship activities like monitoring mojave desert tortoise and other sensitive species, and restoring habitat and native vegetation in the beaver dam wash national conservation area.
Water - monitored current/potential impacts to local water resources; advocated for protection of water resources; educated and engaged 500+ people on water conservation principles at 5+ community presentations and events; elevated water conservation in the local news via 6+ op-eds and press interviews; met with water managers of Washington county's 5 largest cities to survey current water conservation practices and identify areas for improvement; participated as a leader on the Southwest advisory council of the Colorado river authority of Utah; encouraged local officials and water managers to adopt sustainable water management practices; planned the 2024 inaugural parade of gardens southern Utah event and secured three event collaborators.
Desert livability - formalized the desert livability program and hired a part-time staff to lead the program; held monthly team roundtable meetings open to the community; authored monthly educational publications on livability topics; monitored current/potential impacts to overall community livability; advocated for smart growth principles; advocated for coordinated land use and transportation planning; educated and engaged the public around smart growth issues; participated in two public comment periods, including analyzing dixie metropolitan planning organization's 2023-2050 regional transportation plan and provided feedback for better incorporation of smart growth principles.
