Helping hungry kids - connie laurent roy and sandy amato had a vision that began in a basement in reston, Virginia in 2009. They knew not every child in fairfax county had enough food on weekends and during school breaks. So they created helping hungry kids (hhk) of northern Virginia to serve the community. For more than 10 years, hhk has provided packs to local elementary school children who lack enough food. Each pack costs about $6 and contains enough food for 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, and 2-3 snacks. Pantry items include fruit cups, applesauce, pudding, cereal, soup, mac n' cheese, and shlef safe milk. Hhk packs 550 bags per week for ten local elementary schools.
Friends of lake anne - reston's lake anne is a treasure in our community. Lake anne village center is the original village center of reston and is listed on the national register of historic places.
