Overseas Research Center Support: Provides general support and administration of U.S. Department of State Funding, through subgrants, to twenty-three of the twenty-five American overseas research centers/programs.
International Academic Development: Conducts a project to build institutional capacity and strengthen academic research and teaching on the arts and humanities within Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco through a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
Special Projects: Administers an acquisition project for the Library of Congress to collect, document and catalog published material and ephemera in twelve West African countries; manages a program to preserve damaged or at-risk heritage sites and museum collections in the Middle East through grants from the J.M. Kaplan fund and Aliph Foundation; administers a program to support advanced research in the humanities through fellowship programs at independent research institutions (FPIRI) funded by the national endowment for the humanities; conducts a project to support critical research and strenghten scholarly capacity in Tunisia, Algeria and Libya through a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
