Program areas at Council on Aging of Elkhart County
Transportation: provides transportation services to older adults for medical, pharmacy, nutritional, banking, and other personal business needs. Modified transportation services during covid to allow for grocery deliveries and partnership with northern Indiana food bank to deliver food to homebound adults. 16,064 trips were provided for seniors in fiscal 2022-23.
Life enrichment: provides a variety of services. Senior care management provides free senior-specific educational, socialization, and exercise activities. State health insurance (ship) counselors are on-site to assist with medicare insurance enrollment and questions, as well as process medical savings plan applications for premium supplement assistance. Money management staff assist with rep payee needs. In addition, tax preparation services are provided. 450 tax returns were completed, 347 medical insurance consultations occured, and 48 ship applications were processed during fiscal 2022-23.
In-home care: provides direct and practical assistance with household managment and personal care to assist seniors to remain in a clean, safe, and healthy home environment. We provided services for attendant care, homemaking, and respite. A total of 6,846 hours were provided to seniors in fiscal 2022-23.
