Program areas at Covenant House Illinois

Founded in 2017, Covenant House Illinois (chil) provides comprehensive support services and residential care for homeless and trafficked young people. Since opening our doors, chil has served more than 1,600 youth and provided more than 25,000 nights of shelter and safety. Our mission is to provide young people (ages 18-24) with shelter and safety, trust and community, and a better tomorrow. At chil, we operate several core programs, including our interim housing program, youth development center, Covenant works program, and street outreach & aftercare program (soap). We prioritize meeting the immediate needs of young people experiencing homelessness, providing sustenance and shelter, and access to identification and legal paperwork, all within a safe, stable environment. Our new west side chicago campus, located in the east garfield park neighborhood, opened in october 2021 with an increased 37 interim shelter bed capacity for youth to stay with no barriers or pre-conditions to entry.
