Program areas at Creative Dance Center
The Creative Dance Center is known locally, nationally, and internationally for innovative teaching methods and the braindance. Inclusive programming for all ages and abilities includes nurturing baby, caregiver/toddler, caregiver/child, family Dance, early childhood, children and teen, and adult classes, including classes for seniors/elders, and adaptive braindance for youth and adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Creative Dance, modern, ballet, and hip hop are offered. Summer programming included multi-arts camps and a teen intensive. Educator/community workshops offered professional development and personal enrichment for adults. The annual summer Dance institute for teachers offers professional development and personal growth for educators, Dance teachers, arts specialists, therapists, and more. This professional learning opportunity provides immersion in the teaching methods developed by cdc founder, anne green gilbert. These teaching methods are known as brain-compatible Dance education. In july 2022 thirty participants from across the us, beijing, ecuador, canada, and peru took part in our virtual summer Dance institute for teachers. Content included brain-compatible teaching methods for all ages, braindance, modern and ballet classes, west african Dance, curriculum integration, choreography, sequential and holistic lesson planning, inclusion and access, and best practices for classroom management. Scholarships and financial aid were given to those who needed support in order to attend.
Kaleidoscope Dance company is Creative Dance centers resident modern Dance company of youth ages 8-17. For the 2022-2023 season, twenty-nine children and teens were company members. The gift of Dance concert featuring original choreography by kaleidoscope dancers (inspired by the uns sustainable development goals) was presented for two sold out performances at the erickson theater in seattle on december 3 and 4, 2022. Kaleidoscope 40th anniversary spring concert, held may 12, 13, 14, 2023 at broadway performance hall in seattle, presented the company in four shows over one weekend. Emergent, established, and bipoc choreographers had their work seen by a wide audience. Youth choreography was also featured, amplifying artistic voices of children and teens.
