Culture Lab Detroit

Culture Lab Detroit's service accomplishments in 2023 included Culture Lab Detroit planning and hosting a series of post covid-19 workshops and dialogues which explored themes involving how artists, creative practitioners and community activists can work together to realize a more equitable, sustainable post-covid Detroit where artists and community organizers are empowered as change agents. Specific programming tactics included 1-1 conversations with artists and community leaders to inform the dialogue programming, felting workshops with residents adjacent to Culture Lab Detroit programming locations to break down social barriers amplified by the pandemic and a capstone dialogue with creative, cultural leaders held in Detroit's islandview neighborhood where the future role of artists in Detroit's post-covid-19 recovery was defined and documented. Aggregated, anonymized findings from the dialogue were shared with key local funders to help inform how future investments in the arts are made.
