Custer County Search and Rescue conducts search and rescue operations in Custer County. Its members are trained in various areas such as wilderness first aid, low angle rescue, general SAR operations, CPR, flight for life, GPS proficiency, high altitude aircraft rescue, rope rescue and snow/avalanche. They have completed 20 successful rescue missions in the Wet Mountains and Sangre de Cristo Mountains as well as surrounding counties. The missions are performed by volunteers who contributed 1200 mission hours.
