Program areas at Customized Options Nonprofit
Highlights of 2023who we served: we served those with a dd waiver through our 245 d licensure in the following categories: in home family supports both with and without training, respite care, homemaker services, and over night supervision. Training and support was provided to direct support staff to ensure those they served with neurodiversity, autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy and other related abilities were served with care and professionalism. Programming and special accomplishmentswe offered afternoon group activities monday through friday to allow individuals to learn about new areas of interest to them and to meet up with friends. So many have developed lasting and meaningful friendships while attending the group activities. It was a great opportunity to work on social and communication goals as well. The ideas for each group activity came from the individuals served who shared their ideas of things they want to do and learn. Trying out new crafts and hobbies was the focus of this group. Iris paper folding was a favorite. A unit on learning to use power tools, hammers and pliers taught participants how to create art from bottle caps and so much more. Sewing with sharon, everyone learned to sew simple stitches by hand but also how to use the sewing machine. Drumming with gary, a local jazz musician was a highlight of the weekly group activities. Everyone was given an opportunity to come up and drum on his professional drum set. While one person was up drumming on his set the rest of the group drummed away on buckets with drumsticks. Learning to read and improving reading skills was at the top of many of our individual served goals and it was accomplished this past year. Almost everyone who wanted to improve has improved by one grade level or more. Our culture immersion days allowed us to try out the food, dance, crafts, history, language, music of the countries of our individual served. We explored nepal, uganda, italy, france, norway and so much more. Exploring new places and experiencing new opportunities had everyone excited to attend the friday group. Snowshoeing, hiking, skiing, touring historic sites, trying our hand at science, and so much more was accomplished this past year.
