Program areas at D3 Arts
Full Circle - Full Circle engages participants in activities designed to support sobriety including 12-Step meetings, arts training and exhibition, skate board meets, sweat lodge, Aztec dance, concerts, drum making and drum circles. We attempt to access the complexity of the issues our constituents face and to provide them with an arsenal of tools to help them build a supportive community, to grow skills and a positive sense of self-identity and to have fun.HEAL - HEAL builds dialogue, exchange and interaction between inner city youth in East and Southwest Denver. The youth in our neighborhoods face significant issues such as the gentrification of their neighborhoods, the rising cost of living, and the potential erosion of meaningful cultural resources in neighborhoods that were once exclusively BIPOC. HEAL involves youth in artistic practice, event planning and execution, gardening projects and neighborhood cultural exchange. The program provides a holistic approach to building well being and resilience and breaks down the isolation that many inner-city youth in gentrifying neighborhoods feel.ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON Allows D3 Arts to provide bimonthly programs that celebrate the beauty of Mejicano and Mexican American culture. The event features, food, music, visual art and low riders.MIKAILHUITL Mikailhuitl is a decolonization of Dia de los Muertos: it is an initiative to return the event to its original Pre-Columbian dates of celebration, and equally, to strip it of the commercialism and appropriation that have become synonymous with Dia de Los Muertos. Mikailhhuitl is a two-week commemoration that involves feasts, Aztec Dance, the creation of traditional altars and the commemoration of the dead. It is a free community program that puts the residents of Westwood et al in touch with the symbolism, beauty, and authenticity of a true community-based program.LAST FRIDAY ART SHOWS D3 Arts serves as an incubator for emerging BIPOC artists and artists emerging from HEAL and Full Circle. Our monthly receptions and exhibitions provide crucial exhibition experience, showcase talent, and give access and visibility to artists who might not otherwise receive recognition. The mission of D3 Arts is to assist individuals in recovering their true selves, be it through sobriety, the rediscovery or cultural identity or the honing of artistic and creative talents. To that end, we provide opportunities for our community to engage with any and all aspects of our programmatic work as separate activities which might include concerts, skate board meets and demonstrations, sweat lodges, etc.
