Dana-Farber/Children's Hospital Cancer Care, Inc. ("DF/CHCC") is a Massachusetts charitable corporation organized on December 14, 2000, whose members are The Children's Hospital Corporation ("Children's") and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Inc. ("Dana-Farber"). Its primary purpose is to oversee, coordinate and support the Pediatric Oncology Program (the "Joint Program"). It also, formalizes the pediatric oncology partnership that has existed between Dana-Farber and Children's since 1947.The Joint Program, which is the largest pediatric oncology program in New England and one of the most active in the country, offers the combined expertise of both a world-class cancer center and an internationally renowned children's hospital. Neighboring institutes connected by pedestrian bridges, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children's Hospital work together to offer seamless, integrated care for children with all types of cancer and blood disorders including the rarest and most complex cases. Through our joint partnership, Dana-Farber/Boston Children's offers more specialists, more treatment options, and more clinical trials than almost any other pediatric center treating cancer and blood disorders in the world.Our Expertise in Treating Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders: Our hematologists and oncologists are among the world leaders in their respective specialties; many have pioneered treatments that have been adopted by medical communities around the globe. Our doctors also collaborate with teams of expert subspecialists to provide truly comprehensive care for our patients. Innovative Approaches:Our history of research and innovation has resulted in many of the diagnostic and therapeutic techniques currently used around the world to treat cancer and blood disorders. Today, we continue to stand among the world's leaders in many innovative approaches.Our research, clinical trials, and state-of-the art treatment facilities allow our care teams to provide the safest and most effective care possible.Some of our innovative approaches include:- The Advancing Childhood Cancer Therapies (ACCT) Clinic offers clinical trials for relapsed and refractory cancer. CAR T-cell therapy is a promising new treatment for some of the most challenging cases we face in pediatric leukemia and lymphoma. - Gene therapy delivers DNA into a patient's cells to replace faulty or missing genes or to add new genes in an attempt to cure a disease or make changes so the body is better able to fight off disease. - Immunotherapy is the treatment of disease by inducing, enhancing, or suppressing an immune response. Cancer immunotherapy attempts to stimulate the immune system to reject or destroy tumors.- MIBG therapy is a special treatment for children with refractory or relapsed neuroblastoma. We are one of only a handful of centers in the United States equipped for this type of treatment. - Our Pediatric Cancer Genetic Risk Program provides cancer risk assessment and comprehensive recommendations for managing cancer risk. We also conduct research into many aspects of cancer risk and its management.- Precision medicine allows doctors to tailor treatment to the specific genetic characteristics of a patient's cancer. Dana-Farber/Boston Children's is involved in one of the country's most comprehensive precision cancer medicine initiatives.Conditions we treat: Utilizing proven treatment protocols and innovative therapies, Dana-Farber/Boston Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center treats over 100 forms of cancer and blood disorders in children and young adults, including:- Blood Disorders - Our Blood Disorders Center provides comprehensive care for a wide range of non-malignant blood disorders including anemia, hemophilia, myelodysplastic syndrome, sickle cell disease and thalassemia. - Brain Tumors - The specialists in our Brain Tumor Center have the expertise to treat a wide range of malignant brain tumors, including atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT), diffuse pontine glioma and germ cell tumors of the brain.- Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Histiocytosis - The specialists in our Hematologic Malignancies Center are world leaders in the treatment of pediatric leukemia and lymphoma as well as the primary types of histiocytosis.- Solid Tumors - Our Solid Tumor Center provides advanced treatment, including surgery, for a wide range of solid tumors, including bone tumors like osteosarcoma, soft tissue tumors, neuroblastoma, kidney tumors and liver tumors. - Other Conditions We Treat - The specialists at Dana-Farber/Boston Children's also participate in the care of children and teens with a variety of conditions that do not come under the umbrella of cancers or blood disorders. These other conditions include genetic immunodeficiencies, metabolic disorders, vascular anomalies, and cardiovascular diseases such as pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary vein stenosis.
