Program areas at Dca Action Fund
The DCA Action Fund advocated and educated Texas state legislators on various topics including supporting district-charter partnerships equitable funding for districts and charter schools school finance reform teacher incentive pay and more. DCA Action Fund was successful in advocating for these priorities and educating legislators and staff members on the importance of partnership and collaboration. During the legislative session legislators were introduced to the concept of partnerships and provided tours and learning sessions of partnerships. Most notably DCA Action Fund was able to provide a voice in the Texas legislature to advocate for agreement between districts and charters which had previously not been the case.
DCA Action Fund hired a part-time Executive Director to help with daily operations during the legislative session to promote partnership work and advocate for the interest of both districts and charters. During the legislative session the organization had to work hard to promote its interest and priorities. Most importantly the relationship building was vital to the sustainability of the DCA Action Fund and the partnership work between districts and charters.
The DCA Action Fund aimed during the legislative session at changing the narrative on district-charter partnerships and collaboration in terms of communications and media. The goal was to help educate legislators and stakeholders on partnership work in the state. These efforts required travel across Texas hiring consultants data analysis working with media representatives policy analysts branding the organization etc. The DCA Action Fund has recently grown in relevance and interest in Texas education policy. The increase in knowledge of the organization and district-charter partnerships has allowed for increased media attention the publication of op-eds and policy recommendations were implemented at the Texas Education Agency regarding partnership schools. The DCA Action Fund published a website and social media presence and created a newsletter with over 150 recipients.
