Program areas at DEMOS A Network For Ideas and Action
Movement building: our movement building program seeks to strengthen the people power that is the engine of the movement for A just democracy and economy by serving as A policy, organizing, and leadership development hub for grassroots and state-based organizations. Through the program, dmos provides leadership support to A cohort of state and local leaders; builds capacity for partners by providing policy, advocacy, and strategic expertise; and facilitates critical conversations to promote shared learning and strategizing. We amplify the voices, priorities, and work of partners by collaborating on original research projects and centering them in national communications and events. Serving as an organizational anchor, our inclusive democracy project partners frequently collaborate with both our economic justice and democracy programs, providing firsthand insight and feedback to help ensure that our priorities and efforts are always in direct service to the black and brown communities.
Economic justice:our economic justice program seeks to build economic power for black and brown communities by advancing democratic public control of economic systems and shifting dominant narratives around what is economically feasible and just. The program is working towards three long-term goals: economic security for all, so that all people can regularly meet their daily needs; economic mobility for all, such that everyone can improve their economic situation over time and each generation is better off than the last; and an accountable and representative government, that embeds public participation into its economic decision-making and centers the will and wellbeing of the people.
Democracy:our democracy program seeks to remove barriers to, and advance an affirmative vision of, full democratic and civic participation by all. The program is working towards three long-term goals: A democracy where political and civic systems are designed to encourage and cultivate full political participation by all; A representative and accountable government that embeds public participation in its decision-making and centers the will and wellbeing of the people; and an inclusive and expansive electorate, in which all black and brown people can fully participate in civic and political life, including immigrants and people impacted by the criminal legal system.
Power agenda: our power agenda program is A framework for building people power reflects our affirmative vision for creating A just, inclusive, multiracial democracy and economy by building civic, political, and economic power for all. This requires structural reforms that include goals and interventions that restore and expand voting rights, strengthen worker rights and protections, and shift power to the people.
