Departamento de La Comida de Puerto Rico

The Kresge Foundation is a private, national foundation that works to expand opportunities in America's cities through grantmaking and social investing in arts and culture, education, environment, health, human services and community development. In collaboration with their partners, they help create pathways for people with low income to improve their life circumstances and join the economic mainstream. Through this year's grant to El Departamento de la Comida, Kresge Foundation provided their support in their development of La Cocina, which among other iniciatives of El Departamento, serves as an alternative in support of small-scaled, decentralized, local food projects. La Cocina,with its product-making equipment, renewable energy and a retail point of sale allows El Departamento to support food sovereignity through shared sources, exchange of labor and knowledge, and food in all its forms. This was the principle project of El Departamento during 2021.
