"the Des Plaines Friends of the parks has proudly awarded nearly 134,000 in scholarships to children of Des Plaines since 2014, in 2022 18,826 . Our scholarships provide families the financial support needed for their children to participate in Des Plaines Park district summer camps, cooking courses, voice lessons, water safety and swimming classes, and much, much more. the Des Plaines Friends of the parks also supports the Des Plaines Park district capital fund in providing donations that directly support large scale capital improvements throughout the district. 240,000 was received in 2022 and applied to infrastructure improvements at lake opeka . These donations help to make a positive impact in the Des Plaines community for years to come.
