Program areas at Design Trust for Public Space
GENERAL PROGRAMThe Design Trust for Public Space is dedicated to the future of public space in New York City. Their projects bring together city agencies, community groups and private sector experts to make a lasting impact through design on how New Yorkers live, work and play.
GREEN CONNECTIONSThe Design Trust for Public Space is collaborating with the Public Housing Community Fund and the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) to create and activate community-designed green space at four NYCHA public housing developments for 14,000 residents in Brooklyn and the Bronx. In 2023, Design Trust worked with its project community partners to conduct site visits at the four developments and led a team of residents at each development to identify priorities for upgrading and activating green space.
Turnout nycturnout nyc is a community-oriented initiative in partnership with situ that will provide infrastructure support for new york city-based arts and cultural organizations while expanding access to the arts across the city. Supported by a $2 million grant from the mellon foundation, the venture will create flexible and semi-permanent outdoor venues one in each borough in collaboration with cultural partners from within each community.a year after turnout nyc programming, we finalized project evaluation and continued to advocate for needed citywide changes. We published an online report that was previously reviewed with our community partners, the project's artist advisory council, and culture@3. This year, we also donated the two kit-of-parts that situ fabricated for this project and which proved very successful in transforming underutilized Public spaces into cultural venues. Since then. Organizations have been using the kits to support local programming and to support other organizations in their free summer programming.
