The Foundation for the Detroit police department is a coordinated effort of enforcement, prevention and intervention strategies targeting gun violence perpetrated by or against members of groups, gangs, and street crews, which provides support services, such as basic needs, transportation, job training and placement for youth who want to change their lives. 2. The Foundation provided much needed operational support for the Detroit fire deparment including funds to purchase new equipment, training for ems and fire fighters, senior fire fighter consulting as well as grant writing funds to help secure federal grants for the department.
