Program areas at Diabesity Institute
Research: in 2023, di further developed it's metabolic database software and ran actuarial analyses of 2300 patients in collaboration with cooper center for metabolism - focusing on reduction of metabolic comorbidities related to Diabesity, including hypertension, fatty liver, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease risk. The software was updated to modern technology eliminating the need for two separate programs for data acquisition and data display. The updated program in r shiny is capable of receiving autodropped lab data with minor manual data updates. Additional tracking values were incorporated to allow for breakdown of specific patient groups in the analysis aspect. The data sets were also utilized to create case examples for the level 1 training program.
Public education: in 2023, di launched an educational podcast, fat science, in conjunction with board member, andrea taylor, and journalist, mark wright, covering current topics in Diabesity and seeking to dispel myths around obesity and introduce the public to concepts related to metabolic health and Diabesity prevention.
Provider education: in 2023, di finalized a virtual level one Diabesity training program for healthcare professionals. Di finished the companion reference book, science-based clinical evaluation and treatment of Diabesity, which was copyrighted, published and printed as a reference for participating healthcare providers. In conjunction with workp2p production team, a group of 13 healthcare professionals completed di's fifteen hour, ten part training course in the fundamentals of Diabesity clinical evaluation. The course reframes the issue of obesity as a metabolic disease symptom and details the underlying pathophysiology of diabetes and obesity. This course was run as a pilot program in preparation for credentialing through the american association of family medicine. Following the course completion, attendees were surveyed and di began preparation for submission for accreditation. Diabesity instute also applied for institutional accreditation with the american association of family medicine.
