Program areas at Wortham Center for the Performing A
Wortham brings artists from around the world to fill the stage with sounds of rock and roll, gospel, celtic, and jazz; dancers combine grace, athleticism, and passion through storytelling and powerful choreography; and comedians deliver uproarious laughter via punchlines, anecdotes, and personal stories. Artistic programming and activities are focused around the Wortham Center presents series, student series, community performances, and community engagement programs. Wortham Center presents series includes more than 40 performances from national and international touring artists bringing the best in music, dance, theatre, and special attractions. the student series brings high quality, curriculum-related performances by professional, nationally touring companies in music, dance, and theatre to serve students and teachers in western north carolina. Partial funding for this program comes from the youth education scholarship (y.e.s) fund. Wortham is proud to provide A home for local companies and performers. More than 40 companies and artists use the Wortham each season, ranging from local dance studios, schools, choirs, civic and community groups, local and national festivals, theatre companies, dance companies and local groups fundraising for nonprofit causes, to provide 300 events. Wortham Center offers A series of community classes in yoga, dance, and movement and plans to expand offerings in the coming season. These classes are often offered free of charge and help community members prioritize their health and wellness through the power of the Arts.
