Program areas at Disability Rights International
Advocacy and training: dri is committed to strengthening the worldwide movement of activists, International development organizations, as well as both governmental and private donors seeking to promote the implementation of the united nations convention on the Rights of persons with disabilities (crpd) in their own countries and around the world. Dri uses our human Rights documentation to train activists and to inform and advise development organizations and donors. We provide support, training, and technical assistance on the development and implementation of best practices for Disability Rights enforcement and community inclusion of people with disabilities. We file cases with regional human Rights bodies and the united nations to promote human Rights oversight and implementation.
Europe: dri's european programs bring attention to human Rights violations against people with disabilities in europe, ukraine and republics of the former soviet union, support the development of Disability Rights advocacy in the region, and engage in policy advocacy on a regional level that includes the Rights of people with disabilities.through the european program, dri collaborates with local organizations to:- expose abuses against people with disabilities; - make recommendations for mental health reform; - educate policy makers; - help train and support new organizations run by people with disabilities and their families; -work with established, mainstream human Rights organizations to promote the inclusion of Disability Rights into their core advocacy agendas.current country projects in europe, ukraine, serbia and united kingdom.
Americas: dri's americas programs bring attention to human Rights violations against people with disabilities in the americas, support the development of Disability Rights advocacy in the region, and engage in policy advocacy on a regional level that includes the Rights of people with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities.through the americas programs, dri collaborates with local organizations to:- expose abuses against people with disabilities; - make recommendations for mental health reform; - educate policy makers; - help train and support new organizations run by people with disabilities and their families; - work with established, mainstream human Rights organizations to promote the inclusion of Disability Rights into their core advocacy agendas; - work through the inter-american human Rights system of the organization of american states to bring about legal recognition and enforcement of the Rights of people with disabilities. Inform and educate united states government policymakers and International development and Disability organizations based in the united states about the urgent need to protect people with disabilities around the world and about steps necessary to bring about effective inclusion in their programs. The u.s. Program also brings attention to human Rights violations against people with disabilities in the united states and engages in policy advocacy to ensure compliance with International human Rights law.
