Adult Ed.: THE FOUNDATION ANNUALLY PROVIDES A MINIMUM OF $15,000 FROM ITS GENERAL FUND TO ADULT EDUCATION AND FAMILY LITERACY INITIATIVES, WHICH EMPOWER GENERATIONS IN THE COMMUNITY--MANY OF THEM CURRENT OR FORMER PARENTS AND/OR NEW IMMIGRANTS--THROUGH EDUCATION. ADDITIONALLY, THE FOUNDATION OVERSEES THE ANNUAL APPEAL FOR THE READ TO LEARN PROGRAM, AN ADULT LITERACY TUTORING PROGRAM, AND SERVES AS THE FIDUCIARY AGENT FOR MANY ADULT EDUCATION AND FAMILY LITERACY GRANTS THAT EMPOWER TRANSFORMATIVE EDUCATION.
Scholarships: working with individual donors and organizations, the District 214education Foundation created additional award opportunities for students'postsecondary success, awarding thousands of dollars to students in areas includinggirls entering stem and law careers; those demonstrating college, career and lifereadiness; those excelling in athletics; those demonstrating achievement throughoutschool academically and through volunteerism and co-curricular involvement, andmore. A new awards for students pursuing a careers in a human services profession, transportation (aviation or automotive); or have a passion for the arts and a desire to teach or pursue a career in the arts fields. Students in the districts adult Education and family literacy program were awarded scholarship funding to cover to citizenship testing and ged fees. The Foundation also awards scholarships for the purpose of private music instruction and ap testing fees. The number of awards continues to grow as relationships are built with donors.
