Program areas at District Commons

District Commons supported a number of community initiatives to offer commons-based approaches to the positive evolution of humanity. These include projects with and for Formerly incarcerated people, projects that create harm prevention and harm response for sexual and gender violence in communities, and projects that help protect natural resources.
Commons-based knowledge sharing and research District Commons supports lectures, salons, and several other knowledge sharing across multiple physical locations as well as digital platforms. These included lectures, salons where knowledge is exchanged on a given topic in a socratic-style, as well as through numerous digital platforms includings digital reading groups, knowledge-sharing slack channels and more, all of which are free to the public and community members. District Commons also presented learnings at many conferences and presentations including a panel at the nwsa conference.
Awarding a grant to proyecto concepcin was a first step for District Commons in launching eco projects that could generate community centered around stewarding the environment. This project has strong mission alignment with the mission and values of District Commons. This grant money will be used to support the creation of an immersive educational and research program tied to a nature conservancy at the Choza in costa rica. This space is a place for individuals and groups to research and develop nature, land and human impact models for living in harmony with nature while allowing for human societal development and prefigures a model for climate change living.
