Division Midway Alliance for Community Improvement aims to create social resiliency and economic prosperity for residents and businesses. Recently, DMA successfully hosted the 2022 Festival of Nations at Planned Parenthood location, which was attended by over 600 community members. The event featured 23 unique vendors and was supported by 20 volunteers.

Program areas at Division Midway Alliance for Community Improvement

Festival of nations 2022 (september 17 2022) -20 volunteers, 23 vendors, 7 performance group, and 600 Community members attended the event -we trained four of our Community chefs on ways to run a food business, work in a commercial kitchen, get a food handlers license and provided business opportunities through taste of nations. Resources and wellness day (march 2022) last friday of each month to distribute food boxes, ppe supplies, and trimet enrollment. The goal is to find resources to support our Community. -served 823 Community members -205 latinx,367 chinese, 114 vietnamese,55 bhutanese, and 30 arabic Community members. Minority business capacity building program this program aims to help bipoc immigrants and refugees interested in starting a business. -nine participants in the program -some of the businesses have started getting contracts and an increase in customer base. (jan 2023-june 2023) housing equity program -utility assistance program -dma is able to help 16 arabic Community members, one bhutanese Community member, and one latinx Community member pay the utility bills. -housing equity program -dma has helped 72 low-income Community members successfully apply for rental assistance. -98 families (jan 2023-june 2023) -heat response -in this program, there were about 80 Community members who got a/c installed. Transit equity program -low income fare assistance -pass. Dma has helped four Community members register low income fare (lif) hop cards (1 latinx, 1 chinese, 2 karen). -fare relief program -676 Community members enrolled in trimet fare relief program with dma. -57 enrolled (from jan 2023-june 2023) -transportation equity program (jan 2023-june 2023) -partnered with pbot and odot to host focus groups, resource information sessions, and a neighborhood bike and walk. Cultural liaison outreach program -tax tip season dma collaborated with east portland Community office and lewis & clark law school to provide a tax tips session for small business owners -there were six latinx Community members and eight arabic Community members who attended this session. -karen housing focus group -13 karen Community members joined this meeting and provided thoughts and ideas on housing questions. Liaison outreach -covid impact and recovery effort focus group -five rohingya Community members and eight latinx Community members -mill park Community engagement -60 people who attended the event and discussed the final design for mill park. Dma building purchase (september 2, 2022) youth workforce development program -14 youth enrolled youth cultural conversation and art mural project -building leadership among bipoc immigrant and refugee youths who are 16-24 years old by co-creating a shared space to share their cultural stories and working with a local Community muralist-alex chiu to develop Midway mural.
