Don't Waste Durham

GreenToGo reusable takeout container service We directly prevented over 3000 single-use containers from entering the landfill, streets, and waterways. We implemented three new pilot tests (Dinner Club, Pizza Boxes, and Wash Services). We offset more than 180 lbs of carbon emissions, conducted 15 outreach events, and we documented best practices to share with other cities to pilot their own reuse programs. We participate in monthly calls with national and global reuse alliances.

Durham Free Lunch Initiative. Durham Free Lunch is fiscally sponsored by Don't Waste Durham. They provided 25,332 free meals to local residents. Donations raised provide nutritious meals to people who need them, supported local farmers, and paid living wages to local restaurant staff and three contractors.

Bull City Boomerang Bag and single-use plastic bag reduction policy initiative Volunteers sewed sewed 700 Bull City Boomerang Bags for distribution to participating stores, directly offsetting an equal number of single-use bags. Together with the Duke Environmental Law & Policy Clinic, published a 48-page white paper entitled "The True Cost of Single-Use Bags in Durham".
