Program areas at Dorflinger Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary
Maintenance and conservation of real property used as Wildlife sanctuary. Memberships offered for use of facilities.
Organize, sponsor, and host cultural and artistic events for members and the local community. Present wildflower music festival on the grounds of the sanctuary.
Operation of glass museum and gift shop promoting an appreciation for history of Dorflinger family and history of glass in general. Host educational events for local school districts and tours of museum and facilities.
The sanctuary offers a series of lectures. The subject matter is historical or cultural in nature. They are used to promote an appreciation of some particular feature of the surrounding geographical area. Attendees are informed of the other acitivites and events in order to promote an awareness of the mission of the sanctuary and to encourage either membership or patronage of future events.
The sanctuary operates a glass museum which displays numerous pieces from the works of christian Dorflinger along with other collections of glass pieces and sets. A nominal admission fee is charged. The sanctuary also works with local school districts to coordinate educational field trips.
The sanctuary organizes and hosts the "wildflower music series" during july and august. Tickets are sold individually or for the series. The concerts are held outdoors on the grounds of the sanctuary. Attendees are permitted to browse the grounds and buildings. These events promote a cultural appreciation of different types of music and also spark an interest in the beauty of the site of the sanctuary, thereby encouraging memberships, donations, and attendance at future events.
Housed in the glass museum is a gift shop that sells many items related to the purpose and the content of the museum, such as replicas of glass pieces, glass jewelry, and many other commemerative small gifts.
