Program areas at Down South Word of Mouth
A Veterans Day Storytelling event that includes 2 musicians and 8 storytellers. The event ts to honor and celebrate local military veterans during a weekend long city-wide acknowledgment. The event lasts for 2 hours and is funded by the San Marcos Arts Council
A storytelling program was continued in the Travis county Correctional Complex. Classes were provided to veterans, young men enrolled in the CHANCE program ages 18-24, maximum security mmates, and 17 year old females. The classes met once a week for an hour to.an hour and a half, Class participation included 150 veterans, 20 CHANCE participants, 6 maximum security, and 5 females Classes met for a specified number of weeks, except for the veterans and CHANCE which run continuously throughout the year The veterans group participates in an extensive week long workshop series to prepare for a storytelling event on Veterans Day During this event, participants are able to write and share a personal story about their military experience with a larger audience in a live performance. The performance invites the general population to come and hear the stories and celebrate teh service of our iMearcerated veterans. eee
An evening of storytelling in conjunction with the Mermaid Festival to celebrate and inform local citizens of the impact of water on the hves of local women and men. The event lasted one and a half hours at a focal art gallery. There were approximately 50 people in attendance. There were a total of 7 storytemers. cence
