Program areas at Downtown West Newton
Business promotion programs: dwni promoted the West Newton's Downtown area and it's local businesses through various events and programs. It sponsored membership meetings to notify the community of upcoming projects, business round tables, and workshops. In addition it participated in the local community festival. It sponsored local cleanup and beautification events. A banner program allowed local businesses to advertise with attractive banners. A holiday event, a fall ocotberfest event, and a spring heritage event, and a bridge festival attracted the community into the dowtown area. Funding was secured for holiday lighting.
Public parks abd recreational trails management: dwni is coordinating a "bridge to tomorrow" riverfront project to connect a regional trail with the Downtown area. The project includes pedestrian bridge enhancements and a town square. Dwni has purchased property in the Downtown area for the town square developement and continues to manage it. Funding is secured for design and engineering of the town square for a signage plan. Dwni created a funding campaign for private individuals and public entities to donate to the project through the purchase of personalized bricks. A recreational trail promotion booklet(trailbook) highlighted and advertised local businesses. New signs promoting the town and trailhead were designed.
Business district revitalizatin programs: through Pennsylvania main street program funded by the department of community and economic developement, dwni provided facade improvement grants in the amount of 000.00 to commericial enterprises in the Downtown area, dwni also provided design assistance to these enterprises. A main street manager was employed to coordinate the main street program. It participated in statewide and regional organizations that promote Downtown revitalization and hosted a regional main street event.
