Description
Durham Colored Library uplifts stories of African American figures, both current and historical, to create a more comprehensive picture of the American experience. They continue to enhance and test the prototype of custom designed Techies4Tommorrow on-line learning tool with animated stories about accomplished African American STEM professionals. They promote this biography through book talks and providing autographed copies to those who give $100 or more deducting the market value from the donors tax-deductible receipts.

Program areas at DCL

Our newest project is designed to improve academic preparation of young African American students with the goal of increasing their motivation and interest in entering and succeeding in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) school subjects and ultimately careers. Improving educational attainment has long been known to reduce poverty and improve the health of individuals, their families, and entire communities.
Gave a presentation to a local Black mens organization about the life of Dr. Aaron McDuffie Moore and the process of researching and having the biography published. Through these speeches we are promoting the importance of story telling and saving our family stories by writing them down and recording them.
Continue to publish and distribute our Merrick Washington Magazine. It is published in large print and includes often missed important evergreen articles. We distribute close to 1,000 copies twice a year through a network of distribution partners and it is also available on the DCL website.
