Program areas at Earth League International
Environmental crime: in 2023, Earth League International conducted dozens of investigative field missions in latin america, south-east asia, and europe, focusing on the most important environmental criminal networks and International wildlife trafficking groups. We also researched the convergence with other serious crimes such as human smuggling, money laundering, and corruption. We collected and analyzed information on over 100 individuals involved in those crimes and shared dozens of confidential intelligence briefs with various law enforcement agencies, which were used to initiate or continue many investigations. We also supported the work of us law enforcement agencies in the arrest of two key International wildlife traffickers in the usa.
Wildleaks.org - wildleaks is a standing project of Earth League International. Through the wildleaks tor-based website, we collected dozens of anonymous submissions about wildlife crime from all over the world. We assess and analyze each submission to determine a course of action, such as sharing with law enforcement or the media, or investigating ourselves. We also published the first wildleaks report, available online on our website.
Communication & advocacy: the most important advocacy and awareness activity was the collaboration with the magazine the new yorker, which published a cover story about Earth League International and our work on environmental crime (31 may 2023). We also started filming a new documentary series about Earth League International and environmental crime. We invested time and money in the production of content and campaigns on social media and collaborated with media outlets on various projects. We also published two public reports.
