In addition, 1,200 hours of volunteering were performed by our 38 college mentors. East Harlem scholars high school (ehsa) access had similar success in its first year through ost Program staff support: 9th and 10th grade scholars participated in full-semester electives offering insights into high school and graduation requirements and career and college awareness; 11th graders participated in a year-long college prep and career counseling seminar; and seniors received support with college applications, financial aid, and work readiness. Of the 77 graduating ehsa seniors, 64 applied to at least six colleges and all were accepted to at least one. Sixty-one percent plan to attend a suny institution in fall 2023.
Elementary Program & teaching residencythrough our out-of-school time (ost) Program, ehtp's elementary Program served 160 students in grades k-5, providing students with an intensive after-school curriculum that emphasizes literacy and math complemented by a variety of enrichment activities aimed at sparking life-long passions. Elementary Program classes are led by a cohort of highly-qualified teachers-in-training from ehtp's East Harlem teaching residency. Each resident is responsible for planning, writing, and delivering content-specific lessons to elementary ost students. Residents provide instruction to students from 3:30-5:30pm, monday-thursday, set academic and behavioral goals for their students, and measure their students' goals to progress on a regular basis. Furthermore, residents foster students' social and emotional growth and improve academic behaviors through daily structured class meetings and regular activities that hone in on the core values of ehtp, such as service and leadership.

Summer 2022: with a generous performance-based grant from a funder collective led by bloomberg philanthropies, ehtp offered a four-week summer Program called summer boost that was, indeed, boosted. Designed to address the academic and social impact of the covid-19 pandemic on our students, summer boost provided 215 rising 1st- through rising 9th-graders with a robust curriculum with lesson-level detail; new club activities including music, pottery, and cultural arts; and two full-day field trips on fridays. Running club: we had 22 very dedicated runners (90 percent attendance rate at training sessions) who participated in at least one of two 5k races and reduced their race times from about two hours to under one hour, including one runner who completed the may race in 19 minutes. The club helped to create community among the runners and inspired the school (teachers, staff, and parents) to run in the races and cheer runners.steam: we engaged a total of 129 scholars in a variety of team-based steam activities: 30 elementary scholars were introduced to engineering design, circuit creation, physics principles, and robotics; 75 middle schoolers studied computer programming and mechanical engineering design; and 24 high school scholars were immersed in first robotics competitions. In early may, we received a generous first stem equity community innovation grant to support our high school first robotics club. The grant will cover first competition registration fees and related expenses, materials and supplies, and stipends for five high school interns.
