Program areas at EcoArts Connections
Eac's 2015 middle and high school programs were held at angevine and manhattan middle school and centaurus, monarch, boulder, arapahoe ridge and fairview high schools. They included 105 sustainability-inspired arts workshops with professional artists; 6 field trips to arts, science, and other organizations, and 1 exhibit. The arts workshops included training in visual art, theatre, video making, dance, and spoken word poetry/rap, reaching more than 1,100 attendees. The exhibit of science-informed visual art works at the national center for atmospheric research with an attendance of 20,000 over 3 months.
Eac activities were for adults and people of all ages and included continuing to collaborate with the national oceanic and atmospheric administration on science on a sphere with a premiere of new works by artists jeanne liotta and michael theodore; commissioning of photographer jane mcmahan to create a new series of photographs which were shown in a one-woman exhibition called "hard rain revelations" at the national center for atmospheric research, reaching more than 20,000 viewers; commissioning artist natalie jeremijenko to do a series of works in collaboration with the boulder museum of contemporary art, among others; and beginning an artist-in-conferences program to be completed in 2016.
Eac's program called eco: exploring culture and opportunities focused primarily on middle and high school youth presenting nature photography, spoken word poetry, and theatre workshops. Workshops were especially targeted to low-income latino youth and adults. Eco included 8 workshops reaching 107 youth. As part of eco, student photographs were published in a book and exhibited at the denver art museum as part of the americas latino eco festival reaching more than 10,000 people. Students performed two nights at art night out, a street fair reaching 1,000 people each time.
Contracted services include talks given for universities and others, and commissions of artists and artist projects that Ecoarts Connections organizes and produces at the request of entities outside of Ecoarts Connections including city agencies, other not-for-profit organizations, etc.
