Children, youth and family services Marks jch serves children and youth year round by providing critical child care, academic/college-readiness support as well as educational and recreational programs that serve the needs of the whole family. More than 1,850 children and youth were enrolled in our early childhood, full day school-aged childcare and enrichment programs during the academic year, including specialized swim and athletic instruction on-site. An additional 750 children enrolled in our summer camping programs. Nearly 150 young adults are employed at the Marks jch through our youth services year-round. Through funding provided by the nyc department of youth and Community development (dycd) syep (summer youth employment program) initiative over 700 youth ages 16-21 received employment preparation and were placed in summer work placements.
Social and senior adult services Marks jch uplift: Community social response, funded by uja federation of ny, provides comprehensive services to over 6,000 clients annually, assisting people of all ages to combat poverty, social isolation and promote family stability and self-sufficiency. Using our 360 degree approach, services are individualized, touch multiple generations' within families and address ongoing and/or emerging needs of immigrants. Marks jch senior center, holocaust survivors center and the good neighbors nnorc provides daily lunches, meals on the go and emergency food services. In addition, to education, recreation, wellness group sessions, health management activities inclusive of personal and care assistance services, case management and assistance to 4,000 seniors with over 12,000 units of service.
Cammarata american dream center Marks jch self-sufficiency center, funded by robin hood, tiger foundation, uja federation of ny as well as nys otda provides comprehensive workforce development services such as employment preparation, job skills and vocational training opportunities, direct job placement as well as post placement support to insure job retention that leads to self-sufficiency to over 2,500 enrolled adults. More than 1,500 clients were placed in employment, with more than 85% of clients retaining their employment beyond 3 months an industry standard representing a high level of success. In addition, over 1,500 clients were enrolled in english for speakers of other languages (esol) and adult basic education (abe) courses at the Marks jch, funded by nys department of education and nyc dycd.
Ukraine crisis response center Marks jch is welcoming and providing relief services to an influx of ukrainian refugees fleeing the horrors of an escalating war. The Marks jch is leading a coalition of safety net services throughout southern brooklyn including: resettlement services, emergency cash assistance, legal referrals, childcare supports, adult literacy courses, sponsor support circles, workforce development offerings and supportive counselling to more than 12,000 ukrainians. A core group of ukrainian newcomers are comprised of young adults (18-25 years old) who arrive alone and with limited resources and support networks. Through the support of the robin hood foundation, Marks jch is providing intensive workforce and educational gains for this vulnerable population including apprenticeships, internships, short-term certifications among other comprehensive services. The Marks jch ukraine crisis center is generously funded by the uja federation of ny, ira w. de camp foundation, truist foundation and welcome.us.women's center Marks jch provides lifesaving services to the most vulnerable women and girls of our Community. Boasting services for expecting and new mothers/families provided by a team of culturally and linguistically competent lmsws, mental health practitioners, doulas, ibcls (international board-certified lactation consultants), newborn educators and pediatric p/t specialists. In addition, the Marks jch women's center funded by the nyc council and mayor's office leads a full-scale domestic violence (dv) unit providing bi-lingual resources and referrals to dv survivors, in particular immigrant survivors, including crisis intervention, safety planning, supportive counselling, legal and cash assistance referrals and onsite clinics, public benefits and childcare support and many more. Our partnership network encompasses urban justice center, sanctuary for families, safe horizon, nylag, Jewish board, and the family justice center.jewish life and learning Marks jch provides a continuum of Jewish engagement opportunities for youth, families and Community members of all ages. Bringing together more than 250+ individuals for an immersive weekend shabbat experience (annually) with renowned educators from israel, multi-generational sessions on Jewish history, arts and music as well as opportunities for a Community kabbalat shabbat. In addition, camp b'yachad envisioned and led by the Marks jch offers a 12-day experience for russian-speaking Jewish teens, ages 12-15 years old, providing them an opportunity to reconnect with their heritage, learn from and with israeli emissaries (shlichim) and build a Community of peers. Finally, the Marks jch leads numerous israel experiences including a recent trip to israel for high school aged teens through the support of rootone and the uja federation of ny. Lastly, the board bound fellowship brings a cohort of Community parents to israel in partnership with jcc association center for israel engagement.cash assistance - as part of its comprehensive social service model, Marks jch provides emergency cash assistance to vulnerable families and individuals. Client applicants are screened through the Marks jch eligibility criteria inclusive of a formal in-depth intake and assessment processes with Marks jch case managers; completion of a uniformed assessment form; as well as supportive documents that validate need. All cash assistance applications, assessments and distribution processes adhere to monitoring standards developed and set in place by respective funding sources.
