Program areas at Edmonds Driftwood Players
For our 64th season, edp featured four mainstage play productions attended by over 11,000 patrons. In addition, edp's 12th annual festival of shorts offered eight new playwrights from as far away as germany the opportunity to see their works performed on stage in a festival of short plays. Our new works program produced six free stagedreadings of works in progress by local playwrights with talkbacks to allow for audience feedback and discussion. Edp continued to increase accessibility to its theatre space with scheduled american sign language interpreted performances and reduced-price tickets for our deaf and hard-of-hearing patrons.
Edp' s education program connected 54 students ages 6 - 18 with instructors and material that taught skills and built confidence to pursue opportunities inside and outside of the theatre. Edp also supported theatre education in king and snohomish counties by loaning resources to enhance school productions and awarding longstandingscholarships of $500 each to two students pursuing higher education in theatre arts and theatre technology. Over 100 ticket passes were donated to schools, arts and culture, and other nonprofits in king and snohomish counties to support their fundraising efforts. Edp's outreach program, take a kid to the theatre, serves youth and their families experiencing housing insecurity in snohomish county with on-site workshops in shelter and transitional housing facilities, as well as performance tickets and enrollment in edp programs with transportation, meals, and supplies, at no cost. Our goal, since 2012, is to level the playing field for at-risk youth and their families through theatre arts. Over 60 youth and their families participated in theatre arts education programs and attended productions during this year.
