Network: edloc works to recruit & select Leaders of Color in key decision-making roles to our network in order to build our collective power & members' personal professional networks/social capital. Once members join the network, edloc hosts a series of member programming events to help cultivate and build the capacity of our members. Our national convenings provide opportunities to build our members' knowledge and expertise around our policy platform and other relevant topics. It has served to grow and connect the membership, elevate our shared values, build skills, and align on our goals and priorities. Our convenings, with over 500 participants in 2023, have also filled a gap in the field to network and provide support to values-aligned, diverse Leaders in Education and related fields.
The social studies accelerator is an initiative committed to supporting the adoption and implementation of high-quality culturally responsive social studies curricula in schools and districts across the country. Reconstructionus provides young people with access to culturally-affirming learning spaces & community. Edloc supports students from low-income families in gaining access to reconstructionus courses & curricula.
Grantmaking: the boulder fund grants support entrepreneurial ventures of innovative and diverse Leaders working to advance edloc's values and policy priorities. The fund is integral to edloc's strategy of advancing values-aligned Leaders of Color committed to demonstrating the impact of cross-sector approaches. Edloc invests in Leaders and organizations that are taking value-aligned approaches to solving the most pressing challenges in Education and are inspired by being part of a network that collectively seeks to build generational wealth. In 2023, through a competitive grant application process, edloc awarded $700,000 in grants (each $100,000) to edloc members who are spearheading or expanding innovations aligned with edloc's values and policy platform. In addition to direct grant support, edloc provides additional support in the form of coaching and thought partnership to grantees. The grant recipients lead organizations focused on improving life outcomes for children of Color across the country.
Policy & advocacy: through our affinity groups and regional networks, members convene to strategize around how to advance policies critical to protecting and supporting our students, families, and communities and build relationships to create stronger cross-sector, multi-racial coalitions. During annual advocacy day events, members meet with legislative Leaders in Washington, d.c. and in their home district.
