El Centro de Accion Social's Youth Education ProgramsJohn Muir High School:The Youth Leadership program at John Muir High School offers academic assistance, self-confidence, and self-esteem improvement for 30 to 40 students. We help students in math, science, reading and writing. We also provide fun yet educational field trips to colleges and universities. We invite professional and motivational speakers for them to share their life stories, provide advice, and serve as positive role models for our students.Program Days and Times: Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.Washington Middle School:The Youth Leadership program at Washington Middle School offers after school tutoring, we bring motivational speakers, and offer field trips for 30 to 40 students.Program Days and Times: Monday from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. El Centro's Jefferson Elementary School Youth Education Program:El Centro's Youth Education Program helps an average of 35 to 40 Jefferson Elementary school students. The staff is fully bilingual including the program coordinator, and tutors who help students in learning how to improve their reading, writing, math, and English language arts skills. The goal of the program is to instill self-confidence, improve self-esteem, and help each student to comprehend and complete their homework.Program Hours:Monday: 12:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday 2:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. El Centro's Summer School in the Park program:Summer School in the Park specifically helps 130 to 200 Kindergarten through 12th grade students by helping them to improve their reading, writing, math, science, and other academic skills. We conduct pre and post test for each student. Bilingual and fully credentialed teachers are hired. Breakfast and lunch is provided through the Pasadena Unified School District. We also offer educational enrichment field trips to key places such as museums, universities, libraries, and other fun places. El Centro has offered Summer School in the Park for four decades in the Pasadena Central Park.El Centro de Accion Social Senior Citizen Program:El Centro's Senior Citizen Network Program was established in 1999 to improve the quality of life for aging low income community members who live in the Pasadena/Altadena area. This program enables many senior citizens to become and/or remain self-sufficient. The program serves between 150 to 200 senior citizens.Many participants in the Senior Network are physically and socially isolated from family and neighbors due to transportation and health constraints. Many suffer from chronic conditions including, diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and heart disease. Programs include: English as a second language, Citizenship and Computer classes, health workshops, and field trips.El Centro's Cultural Programs:El Centro celebrates various cultural events: Three Kings Day, Day of the Dead, Cesar Chavez Commemoration Day & Peace Walk, and our El Centro's Gloria Delaney Scholarship Fund Ceremony.
