Program areas at El Centro de Las Americas
To reduce barriers to better health for latinos and hispanics, to promote understanding of chronic disease, to hold cultural center events to promote health education and chronic disease prevention, to provide health screenings, to promote quarterly events by providing presentations at culturally appropriate sites and to provide appropriate interpretation at events and transportation to medical/dental appointments. To help families in crisis using culturally sensitive support methods aimed at persons who have been victims of a violent act.
To increase the academic acheivement of latino youth by encouraging them to graduate from high school, increase rate of graduation and ged completion among latino youth which promotes enrollment of latinos in post-secondary educational institutions and foster behaviors which discourage involvement in the juvenile justice system.
To provide a youth leadership development program that supports and guides youth through their rites of passage process while focusing on the prevention of substance abuse, teen pregnancy, relationship violence, gang violence and school failure. To encourage youth to pursue their academic and life goals by providing them with interactions with successful male role models and through educational and practical field trips.
To provide one-on-one support and resource navigation for women currently going through a domestic violence situation. To provide programming for individuals experiencing dating violence, sexual abuse, stalking and domestic abuse by a spouse or partner. To guide participants through creating a safety plan for themselves and their family members. Women are also connected with multiple resources in the local community
To help families in crisis using culturally-sensitive support methods that proide resource naavigation, employmnet assistance, and case management with the goal of having families and individuals become self-sustaining member of the community.
